My name is Bethany Herrick, and I am the Peer Support Worker (PSW) for Caraline.
PSW is a initiative inspired by the NHS. Peer support happens when people who have similar experiences of something difficult come together to support each other.
At Caraline, it provides you with an opportunity to talk about your experiences of mental health difficulties associated with your eating disorder.
Peer support happens when people who have similar experiences of something difficult come together to support each other. It is through the development of meaningful, group relationships that peer support works. People can feel less alone if they talk about their experiences
Peer support differs from other forms of mental health services and support in meaningful ways. Crucially, the people involved play an active role in creating a safe environment for each other, led by the Peer Support Worker. In this space, people give and receive support from each other. Peers choose what parts of their personal experiences they talk about, seek help for, and use to support other people.
I plan to facilitate this space by offering the following:
